Shortest Autobio Ever

Keeping your (and mine) best interests in mind, I kept this short. What events shaped me into the strange individual I am? It’s simple: a trip to the zoo. No, I’m serious.

An Autobiography

In late 1989, I toddled into being. My first few years are vague, as to be expected; I spent them with my grandparents in China. My parents had left to seek opportunity in the great land of freedom, America, when I was young, two and three. Without them, I quickly adopted my aunt and uncle as my surrogate parents, and life passed in a general pattern of going to the school across the street, throwing a good happy tantrum, then going home and eating ice cream. I guess I was kind of pampered, because I’m an only child, though the cousins were never far.

Then one day, my whole life changed (cue dramatic music…no, really). I was going to the zoo! Oh, how exciting; I immediately agreed to go. And on the way, there was an airplane. How’d it get there, I don’t know, but it sure looked nifty. It must have been a good day, because my grandparents immediately let me go on and explore it. It wasn’t until too late that I figured I wasn’t coming out. Not on that side of the ocean.

In America, I made the association with the two adults in the airport to the vague blobs in my memory, and life settled. Two boring years in the East Coast, two sunny years on the western front, and then, finally, a home: six years in the Deep South. For the first time, I lived in a house, got to have friends I knew since *gasp* grade school. I really thought I would live there until I graduated and was packed off to college. Imagine, then, the shock of moving suddenly to the East Coast again, because of my dad’s job. Who was once a- dare I say it? -proud Texan now finds herself in the midst of the liberal Mid-Atlantic seaboard. After two years of settling in, I’m adjusted. Yes. Perfectly.
